Kingsmen Bested by Occidental 3-0

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's soccer faced a tough challenge against first-place Occidental, falling to the Tigers 3-0 on Wednesday evening at William Rolland Stadium.

The Kingsmen (4-5-1, 2-2-0 SCIAC) were unable to find the back of the net despite creating a few quality chances. The Tigers (6-1-2, 4-0-1 SCIAC) took control early and never looked back, remaining unbeaten in conference play.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the 17th minute to put them up 1-0. Despite the Kingsmen's best efforts to equalize, the visitors maintained their advantage heading into halftime.

The second half saw more of the same as the Kingsmen struggled to break through a disciplined Tigers defense. Maximo Schelotto led the Kingsmen with two shots, one on target, while JP Melgoza, Kane Reese, Caleb Merrill, and Joel Wollin each took a shot as well.

The Tigers doubled their lead in the 81st minute and added a third goal just two minutes later.

Goalkeeper Gen Katashiba made seven saves in the effort, but the Kingsmen couldn't muster a response as the Tigers secured the 3-0 victory.

The Kingsmen will look to bounce back in their next match as they continue SCIAC play on the road against Caltech on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m.
