CLAREMONT, Calif. – After 85 minutes of scoreless play, Cal Lutheran men's soccer conceded a late goal to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a narrow 1-0 defeat on Wednesday evening.
After a scoreless first half, both teams worked hard to find that elusive first goal, with the Kingsmen (6-7-5, 4-4-3 SCIAC) creating several chances. Goalkeeper Gen Katashiba stood tall, making 11 saves to keep the Kingsmen in the match.
In the 85th minute, the Stags broke the deadlock, capitalizing on a low cross that found its way to John Laidlaw, who tapped it into the net for the game's only goal.
JP Melgoza led the Kingsmen with three shots while Max Scott, Maximo Schelotto, Tobias Tysnes, Alejandro Loza, Jackson Smart, and Nathan Buehler all had one.
With just one game remaining in the regular season, the Kingsmen control their own destiny and can clinch a SCIAC playoff berth with a win. They will return to Thousand Oaks to celebrate their seniors and look to lock in their playoff spot this Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. against Caltech.
