Kingsmen, Panthers Battle to 1-1 Draw

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's soccer picked up a point in their SCIAC playoff push on Saturday evening, battling Chapman to a 1-1 draw in a gritty conference matchup at William Rolland Stadium.

The scoring opened early when the Panthers (5-7-5, 4-4-3 SCIAC) got on the board in the 12th minute, breaking through the Kingsmen's defense with a sharp finish.

The Kingsmen (6-6-5, 4-3-3 SCIAC) responded swiftly, as Jackson Endsley found the back of the net in the 22nd minute to even the score. Endsley's goal came off a well-orchestrated attack that allowed him to slot the ball past the Panthers' goalkeeper.

Despite numerous chances from both sides, including eight corner kicks for CLU, the defenses held firm through the second half as neither team could find the game-winner. Physical play highlighted the contest, with both teams combining for a whopping 32 fouls and three yellow cards.

Goalkeeper Gen Katashiba anchored the Kingsmen with three saves while defenders Caleb Merrill, Preston Fleming, and Lance Park held it down in the backend.

The Kingsmen have two matches remaining in the regular season as the SCIAC playoff picture forms. With the new five-team playoff format, the Kingsmen sit comfortably in a playoff spot, tied with Chapman for the fourth seed.

Next, the purple and gold go on the road to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
