Kingsmen Top La Verne on the Road

LA VERNE, Calif. – In their first meeting this season, Cal Lutheran men's water polo defeated La Verne 14-11 at Las Flores Pool. Nine different Kingsmen scored with Lincoln Hall and Zane Hermann each contributing three goals to secure the win.

The first period set the tone for the match as Cal Lutheran (11-10, 4-2 SCIAC) jumped ahead with four consecutive goals, holding the Leopards to just two. Hall, Hermann, Justin Boals, and Levi Cook helped establish the lead going into the next quarter.

Hermann and Tommy Riffle kicked off the scoring in the second. La Verne (7-16, 2-5 SCIAC) kept the pressure on adding three more goals, but the Kingsmen held onto their lead and ended the half with a 6-5 advantage.

Cal Lutheran just barely outscored La Verne in the third period, but was still able to extend their lead with key goals from Merrick Giles and Cormac Flanders. The Leopards attempted to rally in the finale but fell short as the Kingsmen finished things off with goals from Alan Castillo, Hall, and Kayden Sourbeer.

Jaeger Gonzales spent the full 32 minutes in goal for the Kingmen and recorded seven saves.

Peter Trinh, Alam Chang-Barnuevo, and David Gutierrez led the offense for La Verne with two goals each, while goalie Eric Bates posted 11 saves.

Cal Lutheran remains on the road going into next week, traveling to Occidental on Wednesday, October 30th at 7:00 PM.
