PASADENA, Calif. – Juniors
Caitlin Murphy and
Alex Hayes both hit .700, leading the Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team's efficient attack as they cruised past Caltech on Tuesday night, 25-15, 25-12, 25-14.
The Regals (7-9,3-5 SCIAC) hit .372 as a team, which was their best attacking effort of the season. They also collected 11 service aces in the match, their second-highest total on the year.
Head Coach
Kellee Roesel said, "That was a great team win for our group. Some of the best defense we've played this season and certainly our best offensive performance. Proud of the kids that came in and made an impact".
Murphy finished her night with a season-high eight kills, with Hayes,
Kennedy Smith, and
Kira Mortensen next in line with seven.
Tess Holbert was the top server for the Regals with her second highest match total of five aces, while
Tarin Rueckert added three more.
Holbert and
Makenna Kawamura quarterbacked the attack with 14 and 13 assists each, and
Alexis Holloway provided eight digs. First-year
Kaylee Clayton was also solid on defense, tallying a season-high seven digs.
Caltech (4-13,1-7 SCIAC) was led by Andrea Li with six kills. Lana Saopraseuth provided nine assists and Karen Cao collected 14 digs in the loss.
Cal Lutheran returns home on Thursday, October 17th for a non-conference match against DePauw University. The game is set for 7:00 PM in Gilbert Arena.
