THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – In their second meeting this season, the Cal Lutheran men's water polo team put up a fight in the thriller against Chapman, but ultimately fell short 11-13. The loss puts them at 8-10 overall and 1-2 in the SCIAC.
Sophomore
Ethan Guereca led the Kingsmen offense with a season-high six goals, followed by first-year
Paul Patterson who had two.
Bo DuBois and
Jaeger Gonzales evenly split time in goal for Cal Lutheran, with all of the game's 14 saves coming in the first half from DuBois.
In the first period, both teams exchanged goals with the Panthers taking an early lead. A response was made from Guecera and
Zachary Isaac, but Chapman capitalized on their opportunities, closing the quarter with a 4-2 lead.
The second saw more back-and-forth exchanges, with back to back Guereca goals and the first from Patterson for the Kingsmen. Chapman's Everett Prussak, however, was able to help the Panthers keep their lead, ending the half at 7-5 in favor of the Panthers.
As the contest continued, the Kingsmen fell further behind despite the offensive efforts of Guereca and
