Kingsmen Dominate Caltech, Extending Win Streak to Five

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – In their second SCIAC match up of the season, the Cal Lutheran men's water polo team defeated the Caltech Beavers with a final score of 19-5 at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.

The Beavers (2-12, 0-5 SCIAC) struggled to keep up with the Kingsmen, who absolutely dominated early in the game.

Head Coach Tim Settem said "I thought the guys played fantastic. We played with a lot of composure, a lot of control, and we executed a lot of the things that we wanted to. For the most part I was very pleased with how we played".

Cal Lutheran (8-9, 1-1 SCIAC) kicked off the scoring frenzy with a strong first period, netting seven goals from six different Kingsmen. The Beavers managed to score two in the first, but quickly found themselves trailing as the Kingsmen continued their offensive onslaught. Caltech went scoreless in the second quarter, not scoring again until the last 45 seconds in the third.

Despite a valiant effort from Caltech's Sujit Iyer in goal, who recorded seven saves, the Beavers were unable to make a comeback as Cal Lutheran maintained a steady scoring pace throughout the game.

The Kingsmen had 11 different players contribute to the score sheet. Merrick Giles led the way with three goals, while Tre Eade, Kayden Sourbeer, Levi Cook, Nic Mastropoalo, Adam Scrivner, and Lincoln Hall all added two each. Brody Swarm, Zane Hermann, Cormac Flanders, and Max Gerdeman had one goal apiece.

Bo DuBois, Dylan Bassler, and Jaeger Gonzales all shared time in goal for Cal Lutheran, tallying a collective eight saves in the match.

The game concluded with a final score of 19-5, extending the Kingsmen win streak to five. Up next, they host another SCIAC contest, this time against Chapman on Wednesday, October 16th at 4:00 PM.
