Ballard’s 17 Points, 18 Rebounds Send Regals Past Athenas

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Alline Ballard continued her impressive freshman campaign with 17 points and a season-high 18 rebounds, 10 offensive, as Cal Lutheran women's basketball defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 77-70 on Wednesday. 

The Regals improved to 8-1 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play and are 13-4 overall. 

Ballard recorded her 10th double-double and fourth straight as the Regals remained atop the conference standings. It is the second time this year she has had 15-plus points and rebounds. It is the fifth time she has pulled down 15 rebounds. 

Four Regals scored double-digits as Sara Mills led the way with 18. Kaiya Mack matched Ballard with 17 points and Janna Holley showed off an all-around game with 12 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. 

The Regals controlled the boards, outrebounding the Athenas 56 to 31. Aliya DiMuro recorded eight rebounds while Grace Godines was next with seven. 

The game remained close early on as the Regals took a 14-12 lead after the first quarter. They pushed the lead to five, outscoring the Athenas 18-15 in the second, and held a 32-27 lead at the break. 

The Regals opened up their lead in the second half and put up 27 points to the Athenas' 17. With the score tied at 37, the Regals used a 19-5 run to take the lead. They never looked back and won their sixth straight game. 

The Regals continue their season on the road. They are at Chapman on Saturday at 4 p.m.
