THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's water polo continued Arizona State's Cross Country Invitational as they took on the Salem Tigers and Wagner Seahawks on Sunday.
In their first game of the day, the Regals battled Salem and came up just short 12-10. Bethany Metcalfe shined for the Regals and scored a game-high five goals. Megan Findlay was next with two goals and three more Regals scored once. Izzy De Souza was in goal and made 14 saves.
It was a slow start for the Regals as the Tigers took a 5-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers added to their lead in the second and had an 8-1 advantage at the half. The Regals fired back in the second half. They outscored the Tigers 5-2 in the third and 4-2 in the fourth but it was not enough to complete a comeback.
Against the Seahawks, six different Regals scored as the offense came from all over the pool. Jacsen Donohue, Katie Knight, Hilda Arellano, Hudson Geier, Metcalfe, and Gianna Garcia scored and Miranda Miller had two assists. De Souza, Vianne Will and Sophie Raquel all took turns in the cage. Raquel made five saves while Will and De Souza had two and one, respectively.
The Regals are back in action on Saturday. They remain on the road and take on Loyola Marymount at 12 p.m. and Cal State Fullerton at 3.
