THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Karina McMillan posted a career-high 18 points as Cal Lutheran women's basketball won its fifth straight game as they defeated Caltech 73-53 on Saturday evening.
With the win, the Regals (12-4, 7-1 SCIAC) have now gone on two separate five-game winning streaks this season and remain in first place in the SCIAC standings.
McMillan's 18 points were a game-high and she added five steals to her scoring. Alline Ballard recorded her ninth double-double of the season and third in a row as she added 12 points and 16 rebounds. Sara Mills added 11 points, Janna Holley added 10 points, and Aliya DiMuro was just shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
The Regals were excellent on both ends, holding the Beavers (7-8, 4-5 SCIAC) to 31.1% shooting from the field and shooting 50% on the offensive end, the highest field goal percentage in a game this season for the Regals.
The Regals used a 24-7 second quarter that included a 14-0 run to establish a 41-20 lead at the half and never let the Beavers get any closer than 11 points in the second half. They dominated the interior with 40 points in the paint to the Beavers' 18 and outrebounded the Beavers 50-28.
The Regals look to stay hot and continue their success when they go on the road to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (4-13, 2-7), their second and final regular season matchup with the Athenas. The game will be on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
