THOUSAND OAKS, Calif — Aidan Johnston,
Max Scott,
Maximo Schelotto, and
Kane Reese all scored to lead Cal Lutheran men's soccer to a 4-1 win over Caltech on Saturday.
"It is always great to defend your home," said head coach
Miguel Ruiz. "We have to continue to grind. We have a lot of the season left so we can be happy today but have to put it behind us and get ready for Whittier."
Johnston converted the opening goal in the 11th minute to kick off the scoring for Cal Lutheran, his first of the season. The Beavers answered quickly by getting a goal of their own just three minutes later to tie it up 1-1 but would be held scoreless for the remainder of the match.
Scott broke the tie in the 30th minute, and Schelotto added one more just before the first half came to an end. Reese scored the Kingsmen's fourth goal in the 55th minute all but putting the game out of reach. It was also his first goal of the season.
Cal Lutheran outshot Caltech 24-9 throughout the match.
Davis Sharts was in goal for the Kingsmen and recorded four saves en route to the victory.
The Kingsmen improve to 4-1-4 (2-0-3) while the Beavers fall to 5-2-2 (2-2-1). With the result, Cal Lutheran extends their unbeaten streak to seven games and has won two of their last three. The Kingsmen look to build off this win when they face Whittier at home on Wednesday, October 4th at 7 p.m.
