THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Maximo Schelotto converted on a penalty kick in the 85
th minute as Cal Lutheran men's soccer tried to stage a comeback. The Kingsmen came up just short as Texas Lutheran held on for a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs got on the board first as they also scored on a penalty kick in the 33
rd minute. They doubled up the Kingsmen with a goal in the 59
th minute.
Schelotto scored his first goal of the season to give his team life late in the second half. The Kingsmen had more chances but came up short.
Chris Pelaez had two shots and
Tyler Sherard and
Dane Paulson each added one. Both shots by Sherard and Paulson were on goal.
Davis Sharts was in goal for the Kingsmen and made three saves.
Even with Texas Lutheran up the game continued to be close. TLU out-shot CLU 7-5 and had more corner kicks 6-5. It was a hard-fought match with the Kingsmen having seven fouls to the Bulldogs' 12. There were five yellow cards given out.
The Kingsmen hit the road for their next two games. They take on Whitworth on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
