Kingsmen Take on Stags in Claremont

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Quarterback JP Andrade accounted for three touchdowns, but it wasn't enough as Cal Lutheran football fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 49-28 on the road Saturday afternoon. 
 
The Stags are receiving votes in the D3football.com top 25 poll and the Kingsmen kept the score close at the half, however, were outlasted after four quarters. 
 
The Kingsmen scored the first touchdown of the game as Andrade found Jadon Cline for an 8-yard strike. CMS was quick to answer and scored three straight touchdowns to take a 21-7 lead. 
 
The Kingsmen scored once more before the half and trailed by only seven. Andrade threw his second touchdown pass, an 11-yard pass to Cade Cadam
 
CMS turned it up a notch in the third quarter, outscoring the Kingsmen 14-0, and took a 35-14. They held the lead the rest of the way as the Kingsmen dropped to 0-1 in conference and 1-2 overall. 
 
Cal Lutheran controlled the air as CMS ran the ball. The Kingsmen totaled 352 passing yards to the Stags' 229. The turnover battle favored the Stags as Andrade had two interceptions and one fumble lost. On offense, the Stags held the Kingsmen to 71 rushing yards and had 186 of their own.
 
Diego Serrano led the defense with 10 total tackles and one interception. Arthur Orta had seven tackles and Jackson Nolan, Zacharias Muhammad, and Devon Goosby had six each. 
 
Andrade was 23-38 for 264 yards and two touchdowns. James McNamara came in for the fourth and had 88 passing yards and a score. Cadam led the receiving group with eight catches for 121 yards and a score. Tyler Shimomura was next with 67 yards and a score and Cline added his score. 
 
The Kingsmen continue conference play next weekend. They host Chapman next Saturday, September 30th, at 7 p.m.
