THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's soccer found themselves in a nail-biter as
JP Melgoza scored the equalizer in the 90
th minute and the Kingsmen and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps played to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.
A goal by the Stags in the 14
th minute was the difference in the first half. The Kingsmen bounced back late in the second and brought their record to 2-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play.
"Today was a battle," said head coach
Miguel Ruiz. "We worked through some stuff and got better as the game went along. Every game matters now so we have to continue to grind and get better as a team."
Davis Sharts was in goal for the Kingsmen and made four saves. He combined with the defense to only allow the lone goal from the Stags.
Melgoza ripped his shot, a one-timer, at the buzzer. The goal came from 15 yards out, right edge of the box, with the assist coming from
Alejandro Rodriquez.
The Kingsmen had four shots on goal as they tied the game and anting to take the lead. Melgoza had two and
Maximo Schelotto, and
Joel Wollin both had one.
The Kingsmen return home for their next contest. They host La Verne on Saturday at 7 p.m.
