SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's basketball picked up their first win of the season with a 74-55 win over Rivier University on Saturday evening.
Alline Ballard recorded her second double-double of the season by putting up a dominant stat line of 18 points, 14 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Karina McMillan and Sara Mills also broke double-figures as McMillan had 17 points and Mills added 13. Grace Godines was just shy of a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
The Regals had 16 steals, a season-high for the team. McMillan and Madison Holden impressed with four steals each and Kaiya Mack recorded three.
After a tightly contested opening five minutes of the game, the Regals capped off the first quarter by going on a 14-1 run to establish a 23-11 lead.
Both teams went cold from the floor during the second and third quarter as the Regals shot 35.4% (11-31) and the Raiders shot 31.25 (10-32) over the two-quarter stretch.
Despite offensive woes, the Regals still led 52-36 in the fourth quarter. The Raiders went on a 12-1 run to cut the lead to 9 points with 5 minutes left, but the Regals answered with a 10-0 run capped off by back-to-back buckets by Ballard to seal the game.
The Regals have a quick turnaround against UC Santa Cruz, hosts of the UCSC Thanksgiving Classic. They face the Banana Slugs on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 1 p.m.
