SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — A second-half surge from Sara Mills and Cal Lutheran women's basketball propelled the Regals to a 59-45 win over UC Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoon. Mills was the Most Outstanding Player of the UCSC Thanksgiving Classic and Karina McMillan joined her on the All-Tournament Team. 

With the result, the Regals (2-3) snapped the Banana Slugs' 94-2) 3-game winning streak and have now won back-to-back games. 

Mills scored a game-high 21 points along with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Kaiya Mack added 11 points and McMillan had 10 on a combined 47% (8-17) shooting. 

The Regals were held to just 21 points in the first half but only trailed by five going into the break. They dominated the second half, outscoring the Banana Slugs 48-19 in the third and fourth quarter. The Regals shot 63.64% (14-22) over that stretch and also outrebounded the Banana Slugs 20-11. 

The Regals matched their first-half total in the third quarter alone and held the Banana Slugs to just 6 points to make it 42-32 going into the fourth quarter. The Banana Slugs managed to get within five points with five minutes left in the game, but the Regals answered with a 12-1 run to close it out. 

The Regals look to use this momentum when they make their long-awaited home opener against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Regals are in Gilbert Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.
