SEGUIN, Texas — After a competitive first half, Cal Lutheran women's basketball couldn't hold off Texas Lutheran's second-half surge as the Regals fell to the Bulldogs 67-54.
The Regals held the Bulldogs to 33 percent shooting in the first quarter and looked to continue to perform on defense with the score tied at 15-15.
It was a defensive battle as both teams applied full-court pressure from the opening buzzer, forcing turnovers on both sides. The two teams combined for 22 giveaways in the first half alone.
Sara Mills shined in the first half, scoring 13 points in two quarters to help the Regals establish a 35-33 lead at halftime. She would finish with 14 points, the highest total of any player.
The Bulldogs took over once the second half began, going on an 18-2 run in the third quarter to put them up 51-37 going into the fourth. The Regals continued to put up shots, but couldn't get enough to fall to start a comeback.
Aliya DiMuro and Kaiya Mack both contributed with eight points each and Alline Ballard continued to show her rebounding prowess by grabbing nine boards. The first-year Ballard is now averaging 10.7 rebounds through the first three games of the season.
With the conclusion of their road trip in Texas, the Regals head to Santa Cruz, Calif., for the UCSC Thanksgiving Classic. They face Rivier University on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 3:30 p.m.
