SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Cal Lutheran women's basketball kicked off the 2023-24 season on the road against No. 12 ranked Trinity (TX), where they fell 78-96.
The Regals kept it close in the first half. Both teams began the game shooting red-hot, as the Regals were 5-8 and the Tigers were 7-8 from three-point range in a first quarter where Trinity led 30-27.
The Tigers went on a 13-4 run to kick off the second quarter, but the Regals fought to bring the deficit to seven points before the half ended with the scoreboard reading 51-44 in favor of the Tigers.
After halftime, the Tigers found their groove again with a 13-3 run to kick off the third quarter. With a 15-point lead at the 6:05 mark of the third quarter, the Tigers wouldn't let the Regals get within reach for a comeback despite the Regals' efforts.
Sara Mills led the Regals in scoring with 16 points.
Kaiya Mack was next with 15, and
Alline Ballard added 12 and 15 rebounds for a double-double.
Janna Holley dished out a team-high six assists.
Seven different Regals recorded a three-pointer as the team shot 40.7% (11-27) from three. The Regals outrebounded the Tigers 47-34 with 25 boards on the offensive glass.
The Regals (0-1) continue their road trip and face No. 16 Hardin-Simmons (2-0) on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 12 p.m. PST.
