THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. —
JP Melgoza scored the Kingsmen's lone goal as Cal Lutheran men's soccer fell to Redlands 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Cal Lutheran struck first, as Melgoza finished a free-kick header with the assist coming from
Samir Lumba in the 12th minute. The Kingsmen played strongly for the remaining 34 minutes to finish the half up 1-0.
Redlands answered quickly when play started up after the break, drawing a foul in the box to earn themselves a penalty kick in the 47th minute to tie the game. Another physical play earned the Bulldogs a second penalty kick, which they converted to take the lead. They would add a third goal to push the lead to 3-1 all but putting the match out of reach.
The Kingsmen battled through a physical game, as both teams combined for 47 fouls while four yellow cards were handed out.
Gen Katashiba was in goal for Cal Lutheran and made five saves in the contest.
Cal Lutheran wrapped up its regular season with a record of 6-4-7 (4-3-5 SCIAC) while Redlands finished 12-2-2 (8-2-2 SCIAC). The Kingsmen now look ahead to the SCIAC Tournament where they will be the fourth-seeded team.
