LOS ANGELES — Cal Lutheran men's soccer battled in their final game of the season, falling 3-0 to Occidental in the SCIAC Tournament semifinals.
The Kingsmen played the Tigers to 0-0 and 1-1 ties during the regular season, but Occidental prevailed in the third head-to-head meeting to advance to the tournament championship.
Occidental got its first goal in the 34th minute, giving them a 1-0 lead to take into halftime. The Tigers struck again five minutes into the second half and owned momentum for the rest of the match. They would get another insurance goal in the 59th minute, pushing their lead to 3-0.
Shots were 16-9 in favor of the Tigers. Davis Sharts was the goalkeeper for the Kingsmen and made four saves in the match.
JP Melgoza, Preston Fleming, Jack Gominiak, Max Scott, and Maximo Schelotto led the offense as each Kingsmen had a shot on goal.
The Kingsmen were in the SCIAC Tournament for the third consecutive season. They finished the season with a record of 6-5-7 (4-3-5 SCIAC) and will begin the offseason and look ahead to 2024.
