THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran football had a fast start but it was Pomona-Pitzer that had the final say as the Kingsmen fell 38-24 on Saturday night.
The Kingsmen got off to a fast start as
Arthur Orta intercepted a pass on the first drive of the game and took it all the way down to the Pomona-Pitzer 5-yard line. Quarterback
JP Andrade then found
Connor Matzke for the first score of the game.
The Kingsmen scored two more touchdowns in the first quarter. Both were passes from Andrade to
Anthony Valencia. The touchdown passes were from 13 and four yards. Andrade was 28-of-44 for 247 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.
The Sagehens controlled the game for the final three quarters, outscoring the Kingsmen.
Daniel Burgos converted on a 45-yard field goal, but the Sagehens answered the Kingsmen with 21 points in the second quarter. The Kingsmen were shut out in the second half as the Sagehens added 17 more points.
Jackson White,
Jake Frey, and
Troy Mills led the defense with seven tackles. The trio each recorded at least a tackle-for-loss, with White having 1.5. White and Frey both had a sack.
Hunter Hall, Kilo Scanlon, and
Max Juarez all added a sack. Three more Kingsmen recorded a tackle-for-loss as
Shaihi Baker and John More had 1.0 and
Devon Goosby had 0.5.
The Kingsmen's passing game saw 10 different receivers record a catch. Matzke led the way with seven catches for 68 yards and a score.
Tyson Lundring was next with three for 50 and
Jadon Cline had five for 44.
The Kingsmen have one more game in their regular season. They host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for Senior Day on Saturday at 7 p.m.
