THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's water polo came up just short as they fell to Chapman 12-11 on Wednesday night.
The Kingsmen outscored the Panthers 4-3 after the first quarter, while the Panthers returned the favor in the third 3-2. The teams went toe-for-toe in the second quarter going 4-4 and it all came down to the final quarter. The Kingsmen scored the first goal of the fourth quarter, but the Panthers answered with back-to-back goals and the Kingsmen fell to 6-14 overall and 3-5 in SCIAC.
"Proud of how our team played today," head coach
John Jacobson said. "We fought hard for four quarters and put ourselves in a position to finish strong at the end. Unfortunately, we came up short and couldn't quite close things out."
Adam Dow,
Lincoln Hall,
Zane Hermann, and
Luke Matthies scored two goals each to lead the offense. Dow and
Tommy Riffle kept the offense moving with three assists each.
Bo DuBois was in goal for the entirety of the offense. He combined with the defense on a stellar performance. He recorded seven saves and six steals.
The Kingsmen continue the season on Saturday and are at Caltech at 11 a.m.
