Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Hall Scores Five as Kingsmen Dominate Poets

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's water polo won their fourth consecutive game against the Whitter Poets, scoring four or more goals in every quarter, to earn a 19-7 win on Saturday afternoon.

The streak dates back to Oct. 20, 2021, and ties their longest such streak against the Poets in school history (11/10/2006 - 9/19/2009).

"Solid game against Whittier today," head coach John Jacobson said. "After a slow first quarter, we picked it up on defense and separated in the second and third quarters. Very good effort by the Kingsmen, led by some strong defense."

The Poets started the scoring and took the lead over the Kingsmen 39 seconds into the game. However, this would be the only time the Kingsmen would trail in the game as Luke Matthies, the team's leading scorer this season, tied up the game 14 seconds later.

The Kingsmen scored four more goals in the quarter and led 5-2 going into the second quarter. Two of the five goals came from Jack Bradbury, who ended the game with two goals, one assist, and three steals.

The match's leading scorer, Lincoln Hall, got the second quarter off to a quick start, scoring a goal on a penalty shot 28 seconds into the quarter. Hall scored four goals in the second and third quarters alone and finished with a team-leading eight shots and five goals, establishing new season highs.

The Poets narrowly escaped a third-quarter shutout when they scored a goal with only nine seconds left in the quarter. The Kingsmen held Whitter to just four shots and one goal in the third as Bo DuBois put on a defensive clinic, recording eight saves and posting a .615 save percentage. Jack Germann split time in goal with DuBois and recorded one steal.

The Kingsmen grew their lead to 11 points late in the fourth quarter when Kayden Sourbeer and Tre Eade combined for three goals within 57 seconds. Tate Hirayama then scored a five-meter goal with 31 seconds left in the game to conclude the scoring and carry the Kingsmen to a 19-7 victory.

Eleven different Kingsmen scored a goal, with Eade, Sourbeer, Bradbury, and Zane Hermann recording two goals each. With 39 shots taken, the Kingsmen matched a season-high in shots, which last occurred against La Verne on Sep. 27, 2023.

Bradbury led the team in steals with three, while Brody Swarm, Tommy Riffle, David Brandt, and Sourbeer all notched two steals each.

Saturday afternoon's win improves the Kingsmen's record to 6-13 overall and 3-4 in conference play. The team will be back in action at Chapman on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
