Kingsmen Bested by Panthers

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran football was on the road and fell to Chapman 38-10 on Saturday night. 

The Kingsmen controlled the air while the Panthers did their damage on the ground. CLU had 229 passing yards compared to CU's 152. The Panthers totaled 167 rushing yards as the Kingsmen had 32. 

The Panthers scored the first touchdown of the game and the Kingsmen were quick to answer as Danile Burgos drilled a 36-yard field goal. Chapman took control after that, outscoring Cal Lutheran 14-0 in the second and 10-0 in the third. 

The Kingsmen got their lone touchdown in the fourth quarter. James McNamara ran it in from two yards out. Chapman scored one more final touchdown and won the game. 

JP Andrade and McNamara saw time under center. Andrade was 16-for-23 with 143 yards and three interceptions. McNamara was 10-for-19 for 86 yards and an interception. On the ground, McNamara had 20 yards and the score. CJ Zackery had the most rushing yards with 37. 

Eight different Kingsmen caught a pass, led by Cade Cadam with seven for 85 yards. Connor Matzke and Tyler Shimomura caught four passes for 40 and 39 receiving yards, respectively. 

On defense, Arthur Orta and Devon Goosby led the way with six tackles. Orta's tackles included one tackle-for-loss. Zacharias Muhammad and Jayden Monick were next with five tackles each. Jackson White added a tackle-for-loss.

The Kingsmen (3-4, 2-3 SCIAC) are back home for their next game. They host Pomona-Pitzer on October 28th at 7 p.m.
