Peete Ties School Record with Nine Aces; Regals Make Quick Work of Beavers

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Sadie Peete tied the program record for aces and served nine as Cal Lutheran women's volleyball made quick work of Caltech on Friday night. Scores of the match were 25-17, 25-19, and 25-7.

It only took one hour and five minutes, and three sets, as Peete made history. The Regals have served nine aces two other times, in 2002 and '05.

"I am so proud of our team for sticking with the game plan weathering the storm that Caltech brought early in each set and believing," head coach Kellee Roesel said. "Sadie tying the all-time record for aces in a match is a tribute to her hard work and dedication to her craft and the program. I could not be more proud of that kid."

The Regals improved each set, hitting .235, .278, and .353 as they improved to 6-5 in the conference and 8-13 overall. It was their second straight win in SCIAC play.

It was a complete team effort as Caitlin Murphy had seven kills and Kira Mortensen, Peete, and Alex Hayes had six each.

Tess Holbert kept the ball moving and dished out 20 assists. She added seven digs and four kills. After Holbert, Amu Buffini and Murphy had six digs and Peete added five.

The Regals also controlled the net as Hayes had six block assists. Murphy had five block assists, Tarin Rueckert tallied three and Mortensen had two.

Down 16-14 in the first set, the Regals fired back with five straight points. After the Beavers scored one point to stop the run, the Regals added even more and scored six straight more. The Regals carried that momentum into the second and third sets. After the Beavers scored the first two points in the second set, the Regals scored 10 straight and never looked back. The Regals put the finishing touch on the match as they dominated the third set.

The Regals look to make it three straight wins on Saturday. They are at Chapman on Saturday at 4 p.m.
