THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Seven different Kingsmen scored as Cal Lutheran men's water polo defeated Gannon 13-8 on Thursday evening.
"Amazing team effort today," head coach
John Jacobson said. "We were well prepared and the team executed their offense and defense well. Excited to see our team play to their potential and we will keep building from there."
Tommy Riffle led the Kingsmen with four goals, recording a hat trick in the second quarter.
Zane Hermann,
Lincoln Hall, and
Adam Dow had two goals, while
Kayden Sourbeer and
Tre Eade found the net once. Freshman
Ethan Guereca also scored, the first of his collegiate career.
Cal Lutheran never trailed after Gannon scored the match's opening goal. The Kingsmen would go on a 5-0 run and were up 7-2 at halftime. It was a steady pace the rest of the way, as the Kingsmen had an answer for any offense Gannon threatened with.
The Kingsmen limited Gannon's opportunities with a man advantage, holding them goalless in 13 chances on the powerplay. Goalies
Bo DuBois and
Jack Germann split time in the net, with Dubois recording three saves and Germann having two.
With the win, Cal Lutheran improves to 5-13 while Gannon falls to 6-5. The Kingsmen look to use this momentum when they resume conference play at home against Whittier on Saturday, October 21 at 11 a.m.
