MALIBU, Calif — No. 6 Cal Lutheran men's water polo battled in a tough matchup against No. 2 Redlands but the Kingsmen fell by 14-6 on Saturday afternoon.
"We went down early but kept playing tough," head coach
John Jacobson said. "Unfortunately, we couldn't quite catch back up and ended up coming up short after four quarters. Our squad kept fighting and hung in there. I'm proud of their effort."
The Kingsmen's defense held the Bulldogs in check through three quarters, not allowing more than three goals in any quarter. In goal,
Bo DuBois helped keep the game in striking distance for the offense as he recorded ten saves and two steals.
Tommy Riffle and
Adam Dow led the team in scoring, recording one goal, one assist, and two points each.
David Brandt,
Kayden Sourbeer,
Nic Mastropoalo, and
Levi Cook scored one goal each.
On the defensive side, the Kingsmen successfully defended against the power-play as they held the Bulldogs to 0-6.
Zane Hermann and
Lincoln Hall led the defensive charge, notching two steals each.
The Kingsmen fell to 4-13 overall and 2-4 in conference play. The team will take a break from SCIAC play during the middle of the week when they match up against Gannon at home on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
