THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - In Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Saturday afternoon, the Cal Lutheran women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over a shorthanded Whittier Poets squad at Poulson Tennis Center to earn its first win of the season.
The Regals took an early lead with two wins to start the day in doubles competition. The pair of Emily Werman and Annette Sousa breezed to an 8-2 win at No. 1 while Shelby Kubota and Christie Kurdys found their rhythm in an 8-1 defeat at No. 2.
The Violet and Gold continued their domination into singles with all players winning in straight sets. Kurdys shut out her opponent at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-0 win while Sarah Seeman did the same at No. 4. Werman was strong at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory while Sousa took care of business at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1. Rounding out singles play was Nicole Neumann, who won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 for the Regals.
Cal Lutheran (1-3, 1-1 SCIAC) will return to the courts this Friday, Mar. 3 at 3:00 p.m. in a rescheduled game against Caltech on the road.
