THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - On Saturday morning, the Cal Lutheran women's tennis team hosted Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener for both teams. The Athenas were unstoppable as the Regals fell 9-0.
Doubles action finished in the order of courts with both No.1 and No. 3 falling by 8-3 margins and No. 2 dropping the match 8-1.
The longest and closest series of the day came at No. 4 singles where freshman Christie Kurdys played Kayla Scott to 6-4, 6-4 finals. At. No. 1 singles, Gianna Cupo battled Caroline Ward to 6-4 in the first, but fell 6-1 in the second. Emily Werman also put up a fight before falling 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 to Lindsay Brown.
Cal Lutheran (1-1, 0-1 SCIAC) will be back on the courts on Friday, Feb. 12 to host Caltech for a 3:00 p.m. first serve.
