THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - On a beautiful Friday afternoon, the Cal Lutheran women's tennis team continued Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action by taking down Caltech 9-0 at Poulson Tennis Center.
The pair of Gianna Cupo and Emily Werman cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles to set the tone of the match while Sarah Seeman and Rebecca Gold followed suit with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. To cap off a 3-0 start, Shelby Kubota and Annette Sousa pulled out an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Kubota got the first win for the Regals with a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Yeorgia Kafkoulis at No. 6 and Cupo finished right behind her with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 to clinch the match victory for the Violet and Gold.
At No. 2 and No. 3, Seeman and Werman each took down their opponents in two sets while Sousa and Gold battled through a tiebreaker to claim their victories.
Cal Lutheran (2-1, 1-1 SCIAC) will return to Poulson Tennis Center for its next match on Saturday, Feb. 20 against Holy Names at 11:00 a.m.
