THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran women's tennis team opened the spring season with a 9-0 sweep over Ventura College at the Poulson Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The Regals opened up play in dominating fashion as the pair of Shelby Kubota and Annette Sousa made quick work of their opponent with an 8-0 sweep. The freshman duo of Sarah Seeman and Christie Kurdys followed suit with an 8-0 sweep of their own in their CLU debut and sophomore transfer Gianna Cupo paired with junior Emily Werman for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
The Violet and Gold continued their strong play into singles action as Cupo, Seeman, Werman, Kudys and Kubota all swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0 while Sousa came through with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
Cal Lutheran (1-0) will jump right into Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action when it takes on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at home next Saturday, Feb. 6 at 10:00 a.m.
