THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Following a pair of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) games, the Cal Lutheran men's soccer team welcomed George Fox to William Rolland Stadium for a non-conference contest tonight. Unfortunately for the home squad, the visiting Bruins blanked the Kingsmen 1-0.
In an evenly matched game that saw 15 shots exchanged in the first half, with the Kingsmen firing off eight and the Bruins taking seven, it was visiting GFU that broke through first. Just after the intermission, Jose Becerra scored on an assist from Joab Logan as the ball found the right corner of the net for the lone goal of the game.
The Kingsmen remained aggressive and finished with a 20-11 edge in shots and an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks with seven coming in the second half. Leading the way for Cal Lutheran was Zack Larson who took six shots and Benjamin Gabella was next in line with four. Bryan Hulse and Brandon Kearney fired off three and two, respectively, as the other CLU players with multiple attempts.
George Fox (2-2) was paced by Becerra and Logan with two shots apiece. Goalie Ricardo Sotelo recorded five saves.
Cal Lutheran (1-2-1) returns to the pitch on Monday, Sept. 14 for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff against Occidental in league play on its home turf.
