THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Coming off a 2-0 road trip to start spring break, the Cal Lutheran women's tennis team returned to the courts for the first time since. The Regals battled with the Bulldogs from Redlands, falling 9-0 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic (SCIAC) action this afternoon.
The visiting squad took an early 3-0 lead after doubles action. The closest match came at No. 3 where Sarah Baker and Rebecca Gold gave Maddie Morton and Gabby Vasquez a solid run before dropped an 8-4 decision.
Once singles play started, the Bulldogs swept through that as well. Gold again had a strong showing, suiting up at No. 2 where she ultimately lost 6-3, 6-2. On the No. 4 court, Baker nearly forced a third set tiebreaker after going down one set to none in the first sequence of games that went 6-1 in favor of Emily Murnin. The second set went extra points with Murnin outlasting the lone CLU senior 7-4 for a 7-6 win.
Becca Drake made her season debut today, playing No. 6 singles for the Regals.
Cal Lutheran (7-8, 1-5 SCIAC) returns to the Poulson Tennis Center for the final time in 2015 tomorrow, Saturday, April 11, for a meeting with Whittier beginning at 10:00 a.m.
