ORANGE, Calif. - After two straight wins in non-conference play last weekend, the Cal Lutheran women's tennis team returned to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Friday, where they fell 6-3 to Chapman.
The Panthers took an early 2-1 lead after doubles competition, taking courts No. 1 and No. 2 by the score of 8-6 and 8-2, respectively, meanwhile Rebecca Gold and Sarah Baker got the first point for CLU as the duo teamed up for an 8-0 win at No. 3.
During the singles portion of the match, Chapman captured the first point with a win at No. 1 but the Regals took the next point after Annette Sousa defeated Madison Strahl 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6. Shelby Kubota also picked up a win in singles by defeating Sarah McDonald 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5 but the Panthers came through with wins on courts two through four to seal the 6-3 win.
Cal Lutheran (5-5, 1-4 SCIAC) returns to the courts tomorrow, Mar. 21 when they take on Trinity (Conn.) at Poulson Tennis Center at 1:00 p.m.
