THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - In the final regular season home match inside Gilbert Arena, the No. 9 Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team took care of business with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-17) sweep over Redlands on Friday night.
Prior to the match, CLU recognized seniors Allie Eason and Pua Mo'okini-Oliveira for their contributions to the Regals volleyball program over the last four years.
As the match got underway, Redlands would tally the first point but the Violet and Gold responded with six straight points with Eason at the service line. Fittingly, the first two kills of the match came from seniors Eason and Mo'okini-Oliveira while Monica Lundgren added back-to-back kills to give CLU the 6-1 advantage.
Redlands rattled of four in a row to crawl back, but another burst from the Regals pushed the lead to eight, 16-8. Lundgren came through with another big kill and Sarah Pappas was a force to be reckoned with, totaling four kills in the set. With a 24-16 lead, Hope Stewart put the game away with her second kill of the match.
Stewart continued her strong play into the second set where she slammed down seven kills, including three during an eight-point swing for CLU. With a 20-11 advantage, Mikayla Dobson served up two aces, the Bulldogs made two errors, and Stewart wrapped up the set once again with a kill.
Redlands battled hard in the third set, rallying to make it a three-point game, 17-14, after trailing big early on. The Regals attack, however, proved too strong and not to be outdone, Stewart wrapped up the third set with two kills to close out the game 25-17.
Stewart led all players in the match with 12 kills and Pappas was close behind with 11 while hitting at a .769 clip. Amanda Roberts added eight kills and a game-high 16 digs while Nicki Tetherow added 13 and Jamie Smith totaled 34 assists.
Cal Lutheran (23-4, 13-2 SCIAC) will conclude the regular season tomorrow night on the road at Pomona-Pitzer at 4:00 p.m.
