CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran women's tennis team concluded its 2014 season with a 6-3 loss to Caltech and finished in eighth place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings. It marked the second straight year the Regals fell to the Beavers in the seventh place match.
Caltech took a 2-1 advantage over Cal Lutheran after Rebekah Kitto and Monica Li defeated Rebecca Gold and Shelby Kubota 8-4 and Sophia Chen and Valerie Pietrasz took down Sarah Baker and Rebecca Drake 8-6. For the second consecutive day however, Lindsay Murphy and Dana Raugust won their No. 2 doubles match, defeating Michelle Lee and Jenny Sheng 8-5.
Shifting to singles, the Beavers picked up wins in the No. 1, 3, 5, and 6 games to take the match before Gold and Raugust each picked up singles wins. Gold defeated Li 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 2 pairing while Raugust won the No. 4 match against Lee 6-4, 6-1.
Cal Lutheran finishes the season 4-15. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the SCIAC Championship beating La Verne 5-4.
