THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran men's tennis team was able to snap a five game losing streak and get back into the win column after defeating Vassar (N.Y.) 7-2 Tuesday afternoon at the Poulson Tennis Center.
The Kingsmen got off to a strong start as they swept all three doubles matches. CLU's No. 1 doubles pairing of Alex Nichols and Connor Treacy made quick work of Daniel Cooper and Christian Phelps, defeating them 8-1. Moises Cardenas and Fergus Scott were next with the No. 2 doubles match and the duo went on to take down Nick Litsky and Chrisitan Lyon 8-5. Cal Lutheran earned its third point of the match when Jesse Knight and Ian Slater won the No. 3 doubles match against Sha Huang and Evan Udine 8-2.
The Kingsmen kept up its strong play headed into the singles portion of the match. Cardenas stayed perfect for the day after he defeated Cooper 6-1, 6-4. Nichols got CLU a point away from winning the match after he was victorious against Litsky 6-1, 2-6, 10-3 in the No. 2 match.
Phelps would win the No. 3 singles contest after topping Treacy 6-4, 6-2 but Slater would get CLU to five points after defeating Lyon 6-1, 6-2.
Cal Lutheran and Vassar would split with the No. 5 and 6 singles match with Udine winning against Sean Handley 7-5, 6-3 but Scott closed out the match for the Kingsmen with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Juan Felipe Laso.
The Kingsmen (2-5) will be back in action on Thursday, March 13, when they take on Skidmore (N.Y.). The match is set to get underway at 2:00 p.m.
