LA VERNE, Calif. - In their last Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) road game of the regular season, the Cal Lutheran men's soccer team fell short at La Verne, dropping a 4-1 decision tonight.
Freshman Elmer Molina was responsible for the only Cal Lutheran scoring of the night when he found the back of the net in the 72nd minute for his first career goal.
A quick goal in the 3rd minute from the Leopards when Saul Uribe scored on an assist from Justin Almandinger put the visiting squad at an early 1-0 deficit. After finding a rhythm, CLU was able to fend off LV for the remainder of the opening period. Out of halftime, however, La Verne again struck first, pushing their lead to 2-0 on the first of two goals from Nathan Gonzalez in the game, while he also assisted on another Uribe goal.
Overall, La Verne outshot Cal Lutheran 17-11, but the Leopards fired off 11 on target while the Kingsmen had just three on goal. LV was also more productive near the cage with six corner kicks to one for CLU. Zack Larson took three shots and Bryan Hulse was the only other player for the Violet and Gold with multiple attempts as he had two.
In his first collegiate start, Sean Williams tallied seven saves, allowing three goals, in just over 66 minutes before being replaced by Baldric Bermudez for the remainder of regulation.
La Verne (10-7-1, 7-7 SCIAC) was led by Uribe with seven shots with Almandinger taking five and Gonzalez recording four.
Cal Lutheran (5-8-4, 4-7-3) has a fast turnaround, playing on Monday night, Oct. 27 against Redlands at 7:00 p.m. inside of William Rolland Stadium.
