INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Three weeks into the 2013 season the official NCAA Division III men's soccer statistical release has Cal Lutheran sophomore goalkeeper Jack Duncan in a tie for the national lead in save percentage and third in goals against average.
The goalie from Newbury Park, Calif. earned the starting role in the second game of the season and has proven his worth to a team that has resurrected its success over the last two seasons.
"Jack is a true competitor," head coach Dan Kuntz shared. "He thrives on competition and has worked extremely hard to earn his spot and prove he is one of the top keepers." He concluded, "We are very proud of him."
Through eight games, Duncan has earned seven victories and has led the Kingsmen to an undefeated record at 7-0-1 since taking over as the starting goalie. In 758:49 minutes he has recorded 36 saves, allowing just two goals, for a .947 goals against average. This honor is currently shared with TJ White from Franklin & Marshall.
White, who leads the country in goals against average at .107 is followed by Steven Nichnish from UT-Dallas (.234) just ahead of Duncan (.237).
Duncan becomes the second CLU soccer player to top the Division III charts this fall. On Sept. 23 Kristina Hulse of the Regals program was tabbed as the national assists leader for the women.
Cal Lutheran (7-1-1, 5-0-1 SCIAC) is back on the field tonight as the Kingsmen travel to Whittier for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. They look to not only add to their success with a victory, but equal their 2012 season win total.
