THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran women's tennis team got back in the win column with an 8-1 trouncing of Occidental Friday afternoon in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action Friday afternoon at the Poulson Tennis Center.
Scoring its first win as a team since March 1, the Regals got three strong performances in the doubles portion of the match to go up 3-0 on the Tigers. The No. 1 doubles duo of Emily Werman and Sarah Baker got CLU off to a good start, defeating Keilani Eriksen and Sara Charney 8-1. Lauren Toohey and Jacqueline Ramsay followed that with an 8-3 victory in the No. 2 doubles match against Catherine Anderson and Lucy Malloch. Lindsay Murphy and Carly Mouzes capped the doubles play with a decisive 8-0 victory over Hannah Munkacsi and Jessie Hernandez in the No. 3's match.
After Murphy suffer the lone set-back of the day, Cal Lutheran cruised to five straight singles victories. Werman earned her team-high seventh win of the season when she topped Charney 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match.
Baker kept things rolling in the No. 3 singles match as she defeated Anderson 6-1, 6-4.
After not conceding a single set in doubles, Mouzes completed her perfect day by sweeping Malloch in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0 in the No. 4 singles contest.
Toohey earned her sixth singles win of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hernandez in the No. 5 singles and Jacqueline secured the Regals second SCIAC victory of the year by defeating Munkacsi 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles match.
Cal Lutheran (5-15, 2-5 SCIAC) rounds out its SCIAC regular season schedule tomorrow, Saturday April 13, when it hosts La Verne at 10:00 a.m.
