ORANGE, Calif., - The Cal Lutheran men's soccer team exploded for five goals to defeat Chapman 5-1 Saturday night in Orange. The five goals were a season-high for the Kingsmen and the highest total since 2010.
The Kingsmen were led by senior captain Raul Yepez's two first-half goals. The first goal came in the 24th minute and the second one came just before the half and put CLU up for good at 2-1.
Matt Hubbard scored his second goal of the year and CLU then got goals in 83rd and 84th minutes when Ivan Sanchez and Bryce Truver both converted on scoring opportunities.
Hubbard, Yepez, Nathan Davidson and Peter Keks had the assists for CLU.
Goalkeeper Rey Rivera-Ramos played all 90 minutes and came up with two saves.
With the win, the Kingsmen improve to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the SCIAC. Chapman drops to 4-5-1 and 3-3-1 in the SCIAC.
Cal Lutheran will be back in action Wednesday, Oct. 3, when they host SCIAC leader Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (6-3-1, 5-2) at 7:00 p.m. in Rolland Stadium.
