Women's Tennis Takes Fourth at Conference Championships

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Cal Lutheran closed out the 2012 campaign at the Poulson Tennis Center on Saturday. The Regals finished fourth at the SCIAC Championships following a 9-0 loss to No. 23 nationally ranked Redlands.

Results: UR 9, CLU 0 - F

Cal Lutheran and Redlands (14-7, 7-3 SCIAC) faced off in the third place match of the SCIAC Championships with the winner ultimately earning third in the final conference standings. The Bulldogs were off to a fast start dropping just six total games during their doubles sweep.

Regals senior Holly Beaman took the first set at second singles over Ceara Sumida of Redlands. However Sumida won the second and the third set super tiebreak to earn a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) win over Beaman to complete the sweep.

Cal Lutheran (12-9, 5-5 SCIAC) finishes in fourth place in the final conference standings for the third straight season. CLU four-year seniors Kim Kolibas, Holly Beaman, and Jordan Leckness played in the final collegiate contest of their respective careers.

No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps came from behind to defeat No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer 5-4 to earn the conference crown. The Sagehens led 2-1 after doubles, but the Athenas rallied from behind and secured the match following Sarah Kukino's straight sets win at the No. 4 spot.

No. 6 Whittier defeated No. 8 Occidental 6-3 in the fifth place match. No. 5 La Verne outlasted No. 7 Caltech 5-4 in the seventh place contest. For complete results, click here.
