WHITTIER, Calif. - Cal Lutheran women's tennis battled back from a doubles deficit to earn a 5-4 conference road win over Whittier on Saturday afternoon. The Regals earned their first victory of the season when trailing after doubles to close out regular season play.

Results: CLU 5, WC 4 - F

A battle of top-12 regionally ranked squads and doubles teams faced off at the Ettinger Tennis Courts. The Cal Lutheran pairing of Kim Kolibas and Holly Beaman earned an 8-3 win over Liliana Serylo and Chloe Dredge to earn the Regals first point.

However Whittier (8-9, 2-5 SCIAC) showed no ill effects on Saturday coming off back-to-back conference losses including a mild upset to La Verne the day prior. The Poets took second and third doubles by comfortable margins and put Cal Lutheran in a position in which it was unable to come out victorious on six previous occasions.

Jordan Leckness and Carly Mouzes earned straight set wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively to tie the match at 3-3. Beaman and Dredge battled to a pair of tiebreaks with the Regals No. 2 player taking both 7-6 (1), 7-6 (2).

CLU freshman Sarah Baker battled back after dropping the second set to win 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 at fourth singles to clinch the team result.

Teammate Kim Kolibas played her fourth straight regionally ranked foe and won the first set for the second time during that stretch. However Serylo battled back to take the final two sets earning a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory for the final point.

Cal Lutheran (11-7, 4-3 SCIAC) earned the No. 4 seed for the SCIAC Championships which it will host starting on Friday, May 4. The Regals will face No. 5 La Verne in its opening round contest.
