THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Cal Lutheran women's tennis became the first conference squad this season to take a point off No. 9 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Senior Holly Beaman earned a victory at second singles during an 8-1 defeat to the Athenas on Friday afternoon.

Heading into the match Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (15-3, 6-0 SCIAC) had won five consecutive matches by 9-0 margins including three straight over conference foes. The Athenas were most recently coming off a shutout win over No. 15 ranked Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, April 14.
Beaman cruised to a 6-1 first set win over opponent Jessie Huang, who retired during the changeover prior to the start of the second set. It is the first collegiate singles victory over a regionally ranked opponent in her career, with Huang currently ranked No. 8 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association polls.
Cal Lutheran nearly picked up a second point after Carly Mouzes forced a third set super tiebreak following a second set victory. However CMS's Victoria Santoro held on for a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory to close out the match.
Beaman, along with fellow four-year CLU seniors Jordan Leckness and Kim Kolibas played in the final regular season home match of their respective collegiate careers. The trio has combined for 112 singles wins since arriving as freshmen in 2009.
Cal Lutheran (10-7, 3-3 SCIAC) will be on the road Saturday, April 21, to face Whittier (8-8, 2-4 SCIAC) in its regular season finale.
