Cal Lutheran Takes Out No. 11 Trinity

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Cal Lutheran closed out its daunting four matches in four days schedule with its third straight 5-4 win over No. 11 Trinity (TX) on Thursday night at the Poulson Tennis Center.

Results: CLU 5, TTX 4 - F

The Kingsmen faced a 4-3 deficit and in need of Justin Wilson and Thomas Millet to pull out their respective singles contests to win the match. Wilson broke serve to win his match 7-6 (5), 6-3 over nationally ranked No. 34 Greg Haugen of Trinity (6-4).

Almost simultaneously Millet broke the serve of his opponent Ben Carroll in the No. 5 singles match. It presented a familiar pressure-filled opportunity to serve out for the match.

Millet led 6-3, 5-4 and earned triple match point to secure the Kingsmen victory. Two points later he won his match and provided Cal Lutheran its third win over a nationally ranked opponent this season.

Earlier in the day he teamed up with Marcelo Sousa for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. The roommates turned doubles partners have won their last three doubles matches and are 4-1 together this season.



For the third straight match Cal Lutheran headed into singles play holding a 2-1 lead. No. 2 nationally ranked Nicholas Ballou and Ray Worley defeated No. 5 Max Frey and Erick DelaFuente 8-4.

Worley took out the regionally ranked DelaFuente 6-1, 6-3 in singles action. He improved his record to 6-1 this season including a 3-1 mark over regionally ranked opponents.

Cal Lutheran won three of its four matches over the past four days including two against opponents ranked in the nation's top 11 overall. The Kingsmen are 3-1 against nationally ranked foes this season and 5-1 versus regionally ranked squads.

Next week No. 20 Cal Lutheran (6-1) will again play one match over four straight days. The Kingsmen will begin that stretch on Wednesday, March 14, against No. 2 Emory.
