THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The No. 9 Cal Lutheran men's tennis team had no trouble with No. 19 Trinity (Conn.), tearing their way to a 9-0 victory at the Poulson Tennis Center this afternoon.
Results: CLU 9, TC 0 - F
CLU cruised out to an early 3-0 lead after doubles action. No. 1 partners Nicholas Ballou and Ray Worley and the No. 2 duo of Justin Wilson and Connor Treacy each won by 8-1 margins while Thomas Millet and Marcelo Sousa teamed up for an 8-4 victory at the No. 3 doubles slot.
Wilson went on to post a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 singles spot, defeating Kayong Lee. Ballou, Worley and Treacy each recoded 6-1, 6-1 wins at the No. 1, 3 and 4 spots, respectively.
Things got a little tougher at the No. 5 and 6 spots today for CLU. Millet battled to a 10-6 third set tie-breaker for the win to preserve the shutout. He took the first set 6-3 before falling 2-6 in the second.
Sousa went on to complete the sweep with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 win to close out the afternoon.
Cal Lutheran (9-2) will have a quick turnaround, facing off with the No. 1 ranked Amherst Lord Jeffs tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Poulson Tennis Center.
