THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Cal Lutheran fell 8-1 to No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer at the Poulson Tennis Center in league play on Friday, March 2.

Kim Kolibas and Holly Beaman outlasted the Pomona-Pitzer duo of Jamie Solomon and Kara Wang for a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles. The Regals trailed just 2-1 heading into singles action against the top-10 nationally ranked Sagehens.
Kolibas and Solomon met again for No. 1 singles and after splitting the first two sets. Kolibas forced a third set super tiebreak but fell 11-9. It was one of two singles matches that needed three sets to determine a winner.
Jordan Leckness took the opening set 6-4 over Arthi Padmanabhan at No. 4 singles. However her opponent rallied to take the second 6-1 and held on for an 11-9 super tiebreak win in the third.
At No. 3 doubles, Sarah Baker and Lauren Toohey gave Nicole Holsted and Emily Kawahara a run for their money, but fell 8-6.
Cal Lutheran (5-3, 1-1 SCIAC) falls to .500 in conference play while Pomona-Pitzer (1-0, 1-0 SCIAC) opened its season victoriously. The Regals will be back in action Saturday, March 3, when they host a non-conference match against St. Benedict at 4 p.m.
