CLAREMONT, Calif. - Two goals scored in the latter moments of the first half helped Pomona-Pitzer defeat Cal Lutheran 3-1 in the Kingsmen's final road game of the season.

Box Score: PP 3, CLU 1 - F

Allowing the Sagehens to score seven minutes into the match, CLU responded 10 minutes later when Kurzon scored his fourth goal of the season to tie the match at one apiece.

Defeating Pomona-Pitzer goalkeeper Rollie Thayer on his header to the far post, Kurzon successfully redirected a pass from CLU midfielder David Lee on the first of his team-high three shots.

The assist is Lee's second of the season.

Forward Matt Hubbard nearly gave Cal Lutheran the lead in the 30th minute as his shot was deflected by a diving Thayer at the last possible moment, preventing the Kingsmen from breaking a 1-1 tie.

Recording a season-high eight saves against the Sagehens, Cal Lutheran goalkeeper Chris Holm made two outstanding one-on-one saves to prevent Pomona-Pitzer from building a lead too large for the Kingsmen to overcome.

Preventing Pomona-Pitzer forward Avery Raimondo from scoring in the first half on his breakaway opportunity, Holm made another point-blank save against Sagehens midfielder Lawrence McDonald in the second half to keep his team within striking distance.

Cal Lutheran (3-15-0, 3-10-0 SCIAC) will return to Mt. Clef Stadium this Saturday, Oct. 29, to face Occidental (4-12-0, 4-8-0 SCIAC) in its final SCIAC game of the season. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
