THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - With 93 seconds remaining in double overtime, Whittier scored the last of its three unanswered goals to hand Cal Lutheran a heartbreaking 3-2 loss Saturday night.

Breaking a scoreless tie, Kingsmen defender Josh Hibbert was able to collect a rebound that initially deflected off Whittier goalkeeper David Diaz in the 28th minute to give CLU a 1-0 lead.

Scoring his third goal of the season on the play, Hibbert, forward Raul Yepez, midfielder Tyler Pascoe, and forward Matt Hubbard finished with a team-high three shots apiece.

Kingsmen midfielder Luis Santana only recorded one shot against Whittier, but he made the most of his opportunity as he also scored his third goal of the season off a free kick in the 76th minute to double the Kingsmen's advantage.

Scoring back-to-back goals in the 83rd and 85th minutes off a penalty kick and a redirected shot respectively, Whittier was able to tie the match at 2-2 and send the game into overtime.

Hibbert nearly scored his second goal of the game in the latter minutes of the first overtime when his final shot of the night bounced off the near post into the hands of a diving Diaz.

Cal Lutheran's most dangerous overtime scoring opportunity also turned out to become the team's final one of the game as the Poets were able to net the game-winning goal with 1:33 left in the second overtime to escape William Rolland Stadium with a 3-2 victory.

Making his first start in goal for Cal Lutheran since his team's season-opener against Fontbonne, goalkeeper Chris Holm finished Saturday's game with three saves.

The junior netminder is now tied for eighth place all-time alongside Chris Capellini (2009-10) with 91 career saves

Cal Lutheran (3-14-0, 3-9-0 SCIAC) will compete in its final road game of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Pomona-Pitzer (9-7-0, 8-4-0 SCIAC). Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
