LA VERNE, Calif. - A second half scoring outburst from Kingsmen midfielders Bryce Truver, Tyler Pascoe, and forward Matt Hubbard helped Cal Lutheran hand La Verne its second home loss of the season in Wednesday night's 3-1 win.
Box Score: CLU 3, ULV 1 - F
Goals scored by all three Kingsmen were the first in their respective careers.
The Kingsmen have now defeated the Leopards in eight of the past 10 head-to-head meetings following Wednesday's victory. It also secured the team's second regular season sweep over La Verne in the last three years.
Even though the Kingsmen outshot the Leopards by a 7-2 margin in the first half, neither team was able to break a scoreless tie until Pascoe found the back of the net in the 50th minute to give the Kingsmen a 1-0 lead.
Goals scored by Truver and Hubbard five minutes apart from one another in the 61st and 66th minutes, combined with a stellar effort throughout the entire game by the Cal Lutheran backline were enough to cement the victory and snap La Verne's three-game home win streak.
Making his first appearance in goal since facing Fontbonne in CLU's season-opener on Sept. 4, Chris Holm combined efforts with teammate Rey Rivera-Ramos to help Cal Lutheran leave the field at Damien High School with the win.
Out of the 14 shots taken by La Verne throughout the match, the pair only needed to make two saves in comparison to their counterpart who finished with three saves out of CLU's 18 attempts.
